In Reply To Some diagnostic software I've been working on. posted by DVDBURN (MD) on December 28, 2008 at 07:03 AM

Message helping me understand how the data is streamed from the ecu, [ http://www.zcontrol.net ] . In the past I've made control software to control ham radio equipment but the handling of the data was always a routine of send a request and get a reply. The Z's ecu can send a continuous data stream of multiple requests at the same time and constantly update the requested info until told to stop. I found this to be a little tricky to work with. I will put together a short video of the software actually working and post it as soon as I can.

If you don't mind me sharing, here is a little history on my control software experience for anyone who wishes to read it. Back in the late 90's I was working on software to control a ham radio satellite transceiver made by a company called "Yaesu" which is based in Japan. I named the software "CAT-Link" which stands for "computer aided transceiver link". A Yaesu radio which can be controlled by software will have the badge "CAT System" located somewhere on the front of the radio. Since they were never officially released or publicized (at the time), Yaesu worked with me by providing me with the command strings necessary for talking to the FT-847 radio while I was creating software for it. Yaesu does not develop software for their radios. They rely on third party people such as myself to develop software for them. During the time I was working on the software I was frequently in touch with Yaesu and they were very happy I was making software for their radios. They had given me as a reference for where to find software for their radios whenever anyone asked them about it and I was constantly receiving tons of email regarding it.

This is the main gui for the Yaesu FT-847 ham radio software viewed in programming mode. The "N5IXI" in the menu bar is my ham radio call sign. If you Google N5IXI you will find old references to my involvement in making this software as well as things related to the Yaesu FT-847 radio back in the late 90's. You might also find references to the software "CAT-Link Pro for the Yaesu FT-736R" which was software I created for the predecessor ham satellite radio to the Yaesu FT-847 in the mid 90's.

The main gui while the program is running, connected to the radio in non-satellite mode 2 meter band operation and with the contact log displayed.

Different display color possibilities.

A Band scope for seeing what is on near adjacent frequencies.

Thanks for reading.
